Ball Gown Pattern for HuaRong SD BJD

Hello, my dear friends in Internet~Land. My hand was finally in a good place to return to work. I started with three weeks of half days, and then moved back to full time. My supervisors were awesome about starting back with work that was easier on my hands before going right back into upholstery sewing. Once things looked like they were back to normal, and I was getting back into the swing of full time sewing, our family got hit with covid. I couldn’t believe it ~ after two and a half years of avoiding it! I’m sure it’s because all the social distancing and mask requirements have been so relaxed in our area. I guess life just moves from one thing to another, doesn’t it? I know this virus hits different people differently, but, boy, was this a gross one! I’ve been down for a week and a half, and truly was not feeling like working on anything creative. I’m finally ok to sit up for longer amounts of time now, and my eyes aren’t sore to the touch anymore, so thought I’d try to get this pattern ready for you.

I did end up adding the embroidered trim to the top of the bodice and then embellished it with some sweet little ribbon blossoms with pearl centers. I also fixed the back of the bodice pieces to include enough overlap for a snap closure. I tried to clearly mark the bodice pieces and place them on the page so it’s easy to see how they fit together. I’ll also include a link below to my video for sewing the bodice pieces together. Enjoy!

The BJD Shalwar Pants Pattern Set

Hello, hello, Internet~Land. After my last video, I did a little more tweaking to the Shalwar Pants Pattern, as well as added a tank-top, a 3/4 length sleeve top, and a short vest. I wanted this to be a simple set to put together, and have made a video showing the quick and easy way to sew the tops. The pieces in this set are shown below the video link with a link to open the PDF file. Enjoy!

A Much Requested Pattern

Hello, Dear Internet~Land! Over time, I’ve had several requests on how I made the SD size chenille sweater. I had seen a couple cute sweaters for people sizes, so decided to try making my own in dolly size. Here is a copy of the pattern I made. I hope it helps give a little direction on how to start. Once you’re used to it, you can alter and tweak to your liking. I will give a quick hint about working with chenille. It is very fluffy, and so can be difficult to see stitches clearly. It can also easily fall apart so there is only bare string remaining if you overwork it. If you’re new to crochet, maybe practice first with a more sturdy (yet light weight) yarn. The FREE PDF is linked below along with pics of the pattern page and a close-up of my finished sweater on my 60cm Angell Studio Hua Rong. Enjoy!

Let’s Try Sewing Some Pants

Hello, Dear Internet~Land! As I prepare my hand to get back into the work zone, I thought we could put together one of my recent patterns. This video will show how to sew the pieces as they are presented in the pattern set (linked in a previous post as well as on the MSD Pattern Page found in the above MENU). I will also show how you might want to alter them slightly to use a continuous one piece waistband as well as how to fit the pants to your particular doll. Hope the video is fun and helpful!

BJD Clothing Review & Intro to Crew

Hello, hello! As I’m working on getting my hand back into shape, I decided to go over a few doll clothing items that I have picked up here and there, rather than sewing myself. We can take a look at what kinds of details I look for when judging quality and deciding if something is a good deal to me. I also realized that I’ve never really introduced my BJD collection in it’s entirety. So, if these sound like some fun chat topics, grab yourself a snack and a comfy spot, and we’ll get started!

Getting My Hand Moving Again

Greetings, Internet~Land! I hope you are having an awesome morning, day, or evening. Things are improving slowly but surely with my hand. I am currently in the midst of Physical Therapy treatments, so hopefully I’ll continue to make progress in swelling/pain reduction and an increase in range of motion/strength. I have different exercises and am encouraged to use my hand as pain management allows. I can do a little at a time, but at present extended use causes the swelling and pain to jump back up again. When that happens, it’s back to compression and icing. For one of my small activities, I spent a little time manipulating a paintbrush to work on some faceups for my MiroDoll 70cm Iris triplets. Enjoy!

A New MSD Female BASIC PATTERN SET

Hello, hello, Internet~Land. I hope you enjoyed the “video visit” in my last post. Now that my Resinsoul Xun has arrived and been opened, I have finished drafting her a Basic Pattern Set. As I mentioned in the video, this doll has the newer and taller 1/4 scale (MSD) female body with the double jointed elbows and knees. The Resinsoul site lists her as 45cm, but when I measured her (with her head attached), I came up with 43.7cm. I’m wondering if 45cm is the size of the original sculpt, but a little height is lost through the molding and casting processes. Her body is very similar in shape to their Mi 60cm body. This pattern set includes both the separated (4 piece) and combined (2 piece) versions of the bodice, as well as both the front and back closure versions for the collar. I also drew a dotted line across the four bodice pieces for drafting a slip, bustier, or strapless dress. A basic foot and sole pattern are also included for designing your favorite slippers. The foot upper has a 1/8″ seam allowance, but the sole doesn’t include one. It is drafted to to the actual foot shape, so remember to flip it for fitting the other foot. Also remember that the bodice front and back pieces (in both versions) do not include overlap for closures. You will need to add it in the appropriate place when drafting your fashions.

I’m also posting the MiroDoll Leo Wig Pattern Set. His head seemed a little bit smaller than some of my other MSD size dolls (Ellowyne Wilde and Evangeline Ghastly), so I thought there might be others out there that could also use a pattern that’s a bit more specifically sized. It is linked and shown below Xun’s Basic Set. My hand surgery is swiftly approaching, so I wanted to get these finished and posted with plenty of time to spare. Happy sewing, my friends!
